Just looking for some tips/advice about getting into cruise ship career…..done some research and know about long hours and months at sea but with free room/board and other travel positives. Been in security field for about 2 1/2 years at a 5 star luxury hotel/condo…curious how competitive ship security market is? I know that some lines have contracts to employ national candidates but what are some ships that have higher american employment ratios? any personal experience or helpful tips that can point me in the right direciton would be appreciated. I do have experience in sailing ships before, along with Cargo ships, but I have no Idea how to apply for a Captain Position on a Cruise Ship Line.
It doesn’t seem like there are many openings.

I know there are people who live on The World of Residensea. However, I wonder if very many people actually spend most of their time on a cruise ship. I’m planning a cruise to the Bahamas and the cruise ship’s iteniary says we don’t leave port till 6am the next morning, but do you have a time you must check in by the night before? You are enjoying your time on a luxury liner Cruise ship the S.S. Wonderful ( I just picked something random that sounds nice) It has been a great vacation but as you read a book in your room you hear an explosion and a very shaky noise then you quickly get your life jacket on you go out to the hallways several passengers have came out as well wondering what is going on then a Steward wearing a life jacket yells out "a torpedo has hit everybody on deck". You head up a deck with the crowd of passengers there you enter the ships luxurious dining room where the ships main staircase is. Food carts are flying down and hitting people the dining room’s grand piano slides down and hits people causing injuries. You hed up the 8 floors of the ships grand staircase you finally reach the boat deck level you head for the bow of the boat deck where you see the ship is sinking from the port (left) side of the bow (front) even worse the davits holding the boats on the right are not working those lifeboat bang against the tilt it is 7 pm at night and now you can see sharks in the water many boats on the right side the boats don’t work people fall in the water and are eaten on the left those boasts do not work also great because the tilt to left has caused the boats to rock away rom the deck and those boats even tip over as they are loaded and lowered you go back in the grand staircase many passengers a re heading up to the boat deck you look dow the banister of the staircase form the boat deck 8 deck below Water r is quick moving upo from the dinning room you head back out to the boat deck out of 30 boats 9 have successfully launched Only 4 work on the boat deck but people are crowding them up one of the 4 is tipped over what are you going to do after you reply to this question I will E-mail you and determine if you survive or not.

How long do the employees stay on the cruise ship? Is it just until that specific cruise is done and then they get like a week off at a time while a new shift of staff member come on or how does that all work? I am doing this for a project, thanks for the help!

I am considering going on a cruise ship and no longer married. I met a woman one time that met her husband on a cruise ship while they were both travelling alone. I wanted to be a captain for a cruise ship but that probably wont happen, so instead I want to be a Yacht captain, what schooling/ licenses are needed to become one? I would like to captain a yacht about 200ft in length (motor, non sail) , nothing more than that.
